From Healing To Harvest

In 2015, Larry Seals faced a turning point. Serious health challenges forced him to reconsider everything about food, wellness, and what the body actually needs to heal. Through whole, nutrient-dense food and a reconnection to the land, his health began to restore. That personal journey became the foundation for Decentra Farm. We grow as people who understand what real food can do—not as a trend, but as something that matters deeply. Every crop we plant comes from that experience, and we take it seriously.

Soil First, Always

Our Ancient Deep Mulch system builds living soil by keeping it covered, undisturbed, and fed with organic matter. Thick layers of wood chips and biologically active compost create habitat for the microbes that cycle nutrients, retain water, and build fertility naturally. We skip tillage and refuse all synthetic inputs—even organic-approved ones. The result is soil that gets richer with every season, plants that grow stronger without external help, and food with the kind of flavor and nutrition that only comes from truly healthy ground. When we feed the soil first, everything else follows.

Teaching What We Know

Larry's background is in training and education, so sharing knowledge is part of who we are. Farm tours, hands-on workshops, and practical farmer training all stem from a straightforward belief: if soul regenerating methods work, they should be accessible. We're transparent about what we do because we want people to understand it, try it, and see results. Faith, family, and community shape how we farm and how we teach. This isn't just our work—it's something we want others to be part of, whether that's growing food themselves or simply knowing where theirs comes from.

Soil

We grow soil first, using Ancient Deep Mulch and biologically active compost.

Culture

We center collards, mustards, callaloo, and heritage greens people truly cook.

Community

We farm transparently, teach openly, and invite our neighbors into the field.

Larry Seals

Founder

Visionary Grower. Faith-Driven Healer. Community Educator.

Larry is the heart behind Decentra Farm — a farmer whose journey to the land was born from personal transformation and unwavering faith.

After being diagnosed in 2015 with life-threatening illnesses, including cancer, diabetes, and severe kidney damage, Larry’s life took a dramatic turn. Faced with a health crisis and seeking answers beyond conventional medicine, he turned inward — and upward — asking the Creator for guidance. The answer was simple but profound: “Eat My food.”

This moment changed everything.

Embracing a new lifestyle grounded in whole, unprocessed foods and mineral-rich nutrition, Larry experienced a remarkable recovery. As his health returned, so did his purpose — and Decentra Farm was born from that mission to heal, grow, and give back.

An Educator Turned Farmer

Larry's background in instructional technology and design fueled his passion for learning, which he now applies in his current roles. He is a project assistant (soil) at the University of the District of Columbia's Firebird Farm and serves as an instructor for the New Farmer Workforce Development initiative. This program emphasizes not only crop production and sales but also aims to help new farmers develop sustainable farm-based livelihoods. Additionally, through Decentra.Farm, Larry continues to develop and share his methods, business strategies, and agricultural insights, enabling others to replicate these practices on any scale, from a small raised bed to a larger plot.

A Different Kind of Farmer

Larry isn’t chasing mass production. He’s cultivating intentional, ethical, soil-regenerating farming. At Decentra.Farm, no chemicals are used. The soil isn’t tilled. Instead, Larry models his practices after Mother Nature herself — letting leaves fall, compost form, and life regenerate naturally.

He doesn’t see other farmers and their farming methods as competitors, but as collaborators in a shared mission to feed communities real, healing food. His ultimate goal? To show others they, too, can grow — in health, in knowledge, and purpose.

Kela Seals

Registered Dietitian & Nutritional Strategist

As a registered dietitian and experienced translator of complex dietary guidelines into practical meal plans, Kela connects the farm to the table. As a farmer and Decentra Farm’s in-house registered dietitian, she creates nutrient-rich harvest boxes tailored to specific wellness goals—such as increasing hyaluronic acid, supporting gut health, or balancing blood sugar. She also develops simple recipe guides and meal-prep plans that turn seasonal vegetables into tasty, healthful dishes. Moreover, Kela conducts workshops on food as medicine, teaching participants how to use farm-fresh produce for immune support and self-care. Her passion for community health drives her to ensure that every carrot, kale leaf, and beetroot from Decentra Farm contributes to your health and well-being.

Roy Lycorish

Veteran Grower & Institutional Knowledge Keeper

Roy, with over 55 years of experience in land cultivation, brings comprehensive, practical knowledge of traditional and ethnic farming. As a project associate at Decentra Farm, he oversees field activities, including planting Rape Rugare, water leaf, and callaloo, and improves succession strategies for quick-growing greens and heritage crops. He mentors new farmers, sharing techniques for soil health, pest control, and natural yield boosts. Roy also advises on crop selection, propagation, and trial planning, evaluating new varieties and tools such as the Paper Pot Transplanter within the ancient deep-mulch (ADM) system. His strong memory of planting schedules, seed sources, and cultural practices makes him a vital resource for maintaining Decentra Farm’s agricultural heritage and fostering soil-regenerating innovation.
